Should you open an LLC for investment real estate to protect against any liabilities?
I am thinking about renting out my current primary residence and buying a new home. Should I put the rental property in an LLC to protect my assets in case anything happens at the rental property?
For one property, no. I’m doing exactly what you are thinking of doing. What you’ll want to do is get a business insurance policy, rather than homeowner’s insurance, to cover the rental. The business policy will have sufficient liability coverage to protect you.
